Verwisseling

The Verwisseling is a 75 year old sailing freight ship, which has taken on a new lease of life as a cruise vessel. The tjalk can be hired with skipper and mate for short or longer tours on the IJsselmeer, Wadden sea or the Frisian lakes. You can take an active part in crewing the ship, even if you have little or no previous experience of sailing. At the same time you can learn some basic sailing knowledge and tricks, or alternatively you can just take it easy and watch. On day and evening trips the Verwisseling has room for 20 guests on board. For overnight cruises 14 beds are available. Whilst on board you can cook for yourself making full use of the galley or we can organize a partial or full catering service for you.

History The Groninger boltjalk Verwisseling was built in Sappemeer, the Netherlands in 1924. After initially transporting freight under sail for many years, she was later used as a motorized freighter. In 1977 she became a fully rigged ship once more and was completely refitted and refurbished in order to take passengers.The hold which once transported potatoes, sugar beet and sand is today a comfortable living space which comprises: kitchen, toilet, washbasin, shower, and three bedrooms to accommodate 14 people. The ship fullfills all prescribed security requirements and is checked annually by the 'Register Holland'.

Possibilities What about: a family get together? A company outing? Your silver wedding anniversary? A team building weekend? A trip with the girls/boys? A training seminar? A get-to-know-eachother student weekend? A regatta with another group of collegues on another boat? Or perhaps just a relaxing cruise with friends. All this and more is possible on the Verwisseling. The Verwisseling can be chartered for trips from a minimum of 4 hours up to 2 weeks in duration. Cruises usually begin and end at the ship's scenic, fortress home port of Muiden. Other ports of embarkation are also possible if arranged in advance.

Evening cruises An evening trip is a great way to unwind. A four hour (minimum) tour offers you the chance to relax with collegues after work, for example. You can enjoy the peace and quiet and perhaps experience a romantic sunset too. Sailing in the dark surrounded by the lights of buoys and distant city lights is a unique experience. In each case dinner on deck is naturally a possibility.

One day cruises During a day tour of approximately eight hours you have various other possibilities. You can choose whether to sail all day or to drop anchor somewhere for lunch. On the Verwisseling you can of course choose to dock at one of the small port towns of the south IJsselmeer, for example Volendam, Marken, or the dyke village of Durgerdam. The small fortress island of Pampus is also worth a visit. We're also specialized in organizing party's on the ship for children. 

Several day cruises The most appealing thing about a Several Day Cruise is perhaps that you are more free to choose your destination each day and dock in a different harbour each evening if you wish. You can simply let the wind decide your course or you can set your sights on a particular port of call. Maybe Enkhuizen for a visit to the 'Zuiderzee Museum', or perhaps Lelystad where you can marvel at the true-to-the-original reconstruction of the East Indies schooner 'The Batavia' on the wharf. Or what about Monnickendam for a combined canoe trip criss-crossing the beautiful local polder landscape. In the evenings the picturesque small towns provide a welcome with their abundant comfortable cafes. The ship too has experienced many a convivial night both on deck and in the cosy living room. If you have a week or longer then the Wadden sea and/or the Frisian lakes could be possible destinations. Naturally the more time ou have, the more alternatives there are. You can go seal-watching on the mud flats, cycling on the Vlieland or sail along some of the small Fresian canals under bridges still operated by hand.
